What is marketing anyway?

Hi Everyone, Clinic Sensei here. I have to admit, I could get used to working just school hours...I was just on my way home and I was thinking about something that happened to me this morning in the clinic and sparker this thought.

What is marketing?

Have you ever asked yourself that question? If you have any marketing training you have no doubt answered it in an academic sort of a way, but what is it, really?

Its pretty simple really. Marketing is the thing you do that bridges the gap between the products and service you offer and the market, the people who want to buy them. Its the interface between the two parts of the sales equation, you and your customer. If you can bridge this gap in a way that allows your customer to know you a bit, therefore trust you and posssibly like you, then you will male sale.

I want to talk about a couple of things here and we cover all of this in detail in the mentoring program, but today I wanted to talk to you about your best market, your ideal customer and the interesting thing is that we dont often target them as much as we target customers who may not be in our market at all with campains such as letter box drops and newspaper ads.

Who is your ideal customer and how do you find them?

Marketing lingo will say things like, target market or demographic, nice market and my favourite, qualified buyer. The closer you can get to interfacing with qualified buyers the more likely you are to sell and convert them into a customer and hopefully a repeat customer. So who is your qualified buyer?

1. They have a problem for which you have a solution

2. They understand a little about what you have to offer

3. They fit your exact demographic and socioeconomic modelling

In other words they are qualified buyers and the most qualified buyer you can market to is an existing client

Think about it. They already know, like and trust you and they have a sales history and yet so few clinical businesses are targeting the most qualified market segment they have, I spend a huge amount of effort on our customers, because they are our referrers, they are keeping the clinic going and we want them to feel welcome, supported and listened to.

So spend some time developing a marketing strategy for your existing database and you will be well on the way to clinic success!

Take care,

Clinic Sensei
